when you get to that area hold down ALT and look around for his name in green

the easiest way to get to Ivor Trueshot is NOT to go down the path that goes by Melandru's statue, that's taking the long way around. Head back northeast from Nente, returning almost to the entry-point from Lakeside County. Now, head east over the little hump and get on the road heading east. Just before you come to the first bridge, look up on top of the big hill on the south side of the road. There he is.

There is another ranger trainer south of the fishing village. There's a triangle shaped island, south edge of that is the town, then south of that is the guy.

To leave you need to finish the "Primary" quests then talk to Tydus (Tyrus? Whatever his name is) to join the academy.

you really should get a secondary profession and get all the free skills available for that as well
